Default Mesmers in Domain of Anguish?

I've just reached Domain of Anguish on my mesmer and well... I'm completely stuck! No one will take me into their group! For most of Nightfall, I've played a basic echo e-surge build but I've been informed several times that won't fly in DoA. So I guess my question is.. what exactly is the role of a mesmer in DoA? What's a good build to use here?

In short? There isnt one...

People are far too accustomed to the cookie cutter builds currently ruling the DoA. The exact same thing happened in the deep and urgoz and those are much more traveled elites. I cant WAIT for experimentation to continue and those godawful requirements of TS/Vent to be relaxed a bit down there. Hearing people complain real time rather than reading it does nothing for me.

IMO Doa is a place to go if you want cool drops or gems or whatever. I didn't play a single mission there that I enjoyed. Even a b/p group is much more entertaining then these tank-nuker teams. The elitism is really too annoying as well, people thinking they are top notch because they can spam searing flames on oversized bone minions. I'm not whining btw. because theres lots of more stuff to do in GW, I just don't touch DOA.

The only use of a Mesmer is some twisted combination of damage dealer, interrupter, and cheerleader.

My views are pretty much expanded here.

There is very limited roles for many professions in certain high level areas, since a small group of people develop a good build, and everyone else copies it, making it the cookie cutter build. Anyone with a profession outside of that is not going to be taken, since most people aren't willing to try and create a new build. Paragons, dervishes, sins, and rits face similar discrimination in high level areas like DoA, where teams are either tank+bip+sf+monk, trapper, or b/p

if you're having a problem getting into PuGs in DoA among other high end places than I assume you dont have a good guild that you can rely on for DoA and other high end area runs, in which case I'd say: if you cant beat them join them...
which means transform your mesmer into a cookie cutter, such as a fast casting searing flames build with a few interrupts/utility as a bonus or the spiritual pain dom mesmer, this works especially well if a ritualist(and to some extent a ranger) is on board. basically transform any cookie cutter build(mainly caster builds) that use different primary professions into a mesmer primary...

what zling posted is sad but true, sometimes you just needs to re-roll into using FC + (some random skill) to turn into a fast casting nuker / healer / something-er. But also like he said you can sneak some dom or insp skills in there for e-management, interupts, hex/ench removal ect.

When our guildee ran his mesmer in DoA, he ran an arcane echo-backfire-empathy domination type build at one point (might have included e-surge) which replaced an ele. It actually made foundry much easier because his interupts, backfire, and enchantment stripping destroyed margonite kis better than any 3rd ele could've done. I know he also tried merely setting his bar to that of a nuker or monk and getting acceptance that way as well.

Lately I run an [skill]Arcane Echo[/skill], [skill]Echo[/skill] (e), Lightbringer's Gaze + other degen/interrupt/energy management skills. Surprisingly working great on abaddon's creatures. You have 3 times the cheap LG. Did not try in DoA, but the Gate of X missions are somewhat easy with that set.

I have not played a Mesmer but from what I gather as I played as an Ele is that instant AoE skills, like Searing Flames, has an advantage and the basis of the tri-nuker Ele segment of the "Balanced" team. I suppose a Mesmer can use something like it as well as interrupts and degen skills. Mistrust and Cry of Frustration come to mind but I'm sure there might be better skills.

When you encounter the Magonite Anur Kis, enchantment removal and interrupts help big! With Fast Casting, you should be able to cast faster than any Ele.

What I suggest is to go experiment with Guildies or Alliance members. Chances are that they're willing to let you experiment than going out with the cookie-cutter PUGs in DoA. In our team, instead of three Eles, sometimes we'll have the typical Ele, an SS Necro, and a Channeling Rit. We have found it to work for the most part.

Good luck and report back if you manage to find a build that works great for Mesmers. I personally would like to try a Mesmer in that area at some point.
